The course is aimed at English teachers in Secundària preparing to take the Oposicions exams in the area of English as a foreign language.
The course aims to practically assist teachers in building a course programme (programació) and individual units of work (unitats didàctiques) to prepare for all parts of the examination and oral presentation.
The course is designed to assist teachers in the following areas related to the exam:
Ten sessions, lasting two and a half hours, every Saturday at International House (a total of 25 hours). Although we do not deal with the topics (temes) one by one, we try to link sessions to temes from the official list.
Sessions are structured to be as practical as possible and course members receive input, engage in discussion and group work, and have time to work on elements of their course programme and units of work.
Outside of course hours, teachers are expected to work on their course planning. Teachers are encouraged to bring this work to class to discuss with other teachers and the tutor. They will also be expected to do any work on their use of English if necessary, as well as preparation of the temes, in their own time.
Teachers can send more pieces of work by email to be assessed by tutors.
Teachers can also attend an individual two-hour tutorial for discussion of their progress and further advice on their course planning.
Vicki has been a tutor on CELTA and DELTA courses since 1988. She's lost count of how many that is, but probably over 100! As well as still teaching regular English courses, she has also been involved in numerous previous "Oposicions" courses for secondary school English teachers.
She has many years experience of teaching adolescents (not to mention a daughter of her own!), both of which have helped her to understand the issues when planning and giving lessons to secondary students.
Vicki's other interest over the years has been testing and exams, and she has taught preparation classes for both CAE and Proficiency.
Claire taught English in Taiwan, Turkey and the UK before coming to Barcelona in 2004. Prior to her career in EFL teaching, she took her Bachelor in Education and worked in a primary school in London for two years. She has been a CELTA course tutor since 2000, in both London and Barcelona, and has worked on part time, full time and blended CELTA courses.
She is also involved in Cambridge exams both as a teacher and an examiner, and in teaching in-company classes.
The course consists of 10 sessions on the following Saturdays: January 27th; February 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th; March 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th; and April 7th.
Sessions are from 10.00 to 12.30.
