The Palma language school
International House Palma occupies three floors of a bright, modern, spacious building in the centre of Palma, just off the prestigious Passeig Mallorca avenue [map].
The school reception (see photo, above) is on the ground floor, and there is also a classroom and toilet facilities at street level for learners with reduced mobility. The first floor houses six classrooms, a number of offices and more toilets. The second floor has another seven classrooms, the teachers' room, a computer lab which students are able to use either before or after class, a chill-out area where learners can relax and socialise, and yet more toilet facilities.
The whole building is bright and spacious and there is air-conditioning throughout. The third floor of the school is also an internet wireless hotspot, meaning that students can connect to the internet using their own laptop (notebook) computers or 3G phones if they wish.
The area immediately around the school is partly residential and partly commercial and there are several bars, restaurants and hotels within a 2-3 minute walk.
The beautifully preserved old city which contains most of the city's main tourist attractions, including the cathedral and the ancient Arab baths, is just a 10-minute walk away.
Language courses
International House Palma offers language classes in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
Our teachers give classes to private individuals (either on a 1:1 or group basis) and also to privately organised groups. The school also has a large department dedicated to work-based learning: We give language classes in many public and private corporations, often funded through EU initiatives. We are able to process all the relevant paperwork to secure funding for work-based learning courses.
IH Palma is also an approved centre for Cambridge exams.
Finally, the school offers Spanish courses through the German Bildungsurlaub scheme, and a variety of courses through the EU Leonardo da Vinci progamme.
Teacher training
IH Palma offers the Cambridge CELTA course, which is the most well-known and respected of the initial TEFL/ESOL teacher training qualifications.
International House is the organisation that created the original course to which Cambridge later gave its name; meaning that no organisation can offer more experience and expertise in the delivery of CELTA courses than IH. You may already know that many of the best known and most respected textbooks in the industry (Headway, Cutting Edge, First Certificate Gold, Language to Go, Natural English, etc) were written by IH teachers.
The school is also well-known for providing training courses for teachers in Mallorca; we have trained teachers of Catalan and English for the local government, and given many seminars. The most recent of these courses was a government funded course for state sector teachers, preparing them to teach their own subjects in English.
